Anoushka Shankar

Anoushka Shankar is a British American musician and sitarist, is most well-known for her songs. She was also the very first and youngest female to receive the British House of Commons Award. Anoushka Shankar is a rising star on the Indian sitar. She is a student as well as child of Ravi Shankar. Born in London She spent her beginning of her career moving between London and New Delhi. Her debut performance was on stage in New Delhi when she was just 13 years old. She then moved into Encinitas CA, where she obtained her High School diploma with honors in the year 1999. Anouskha is still pursuing a successful music and acting career, even though she's only a teenager. She is often seen performing together with her dad, and has performed with him for quite a number of years. Her debut single album Anourag in 1998. It was followed by Live at Carnegie Hall, a Grammy-nominated album two years after. Her career on stage is extensive for she has appeared in all of the world's major venues. Her career extends beyond the realm of music. She released Bapi, the Heart of My Life, in 2002. It is a biographical work that is a tribute to her dad Ravi Shankar. Also, she appeared in movie in 2003. She played a Bharat Nayam dancer on Dance Like a Man. Anoushka is continuing to advance on her path and there will be many more things to come from this talented lady. Anoushka was raised in England however, she spent the majority of her youth in between London and Delhi. She then moved to California and went to high school there. At the age of nine, she started studying music with her father. She made her debut with the sitar four years later during the celebration of his 75th birthday in Delhi. The father of Anoushka travelled the world with her and she also gained a variety of opportunities. As she was teenagers, Anoushka performed at Carnegie Hall at Peter Gabriel's WOMAD Music Festival. In the end, The House of Commons Shield was presented an award by the British Parliament in recognition of being the pre-eminent Asian Arts musician. She is the only female and is the smallest recipient of this prize.
